Causes of API returned error: 403​

Error 403 Forbidden from CurseForge API means access denied. Possible reasons:

1. Invalid or Revoked API Key​

• Key was revoked or deactivated
• Typo or extra spaces in the key
• Key not fully copied

---

2. API Key Not Yet Activated​

• After creating a key at console.curseforge.com, it may take up to 24 hours to activate

---

3. Rate Limit Exceeded​

• CurseForge limits the number of requests
• Try again later

---

4. IP Blocked​

• Server IP might be blocked by CurseForge (datacenters/VPS are sometimes blocked)
• Solution: use a different server or contact CurseForge support

5. API Project Not Approved​

• CurseForge requires project approval for certain access types
• Check your project status in the CurseForge console

How to Test​

Test your API key manually via curl:

If it works → problem is in the code or key encryption
If 403 → problem with the key itself or CurseForge account
